Please complete the following online application/preference form to apply for a Baskin Engineering Teaching Assistantship by the deadlines posted below.
Spring 2025 TA Application/Preference Form is now CLOSED.
Please note: Students whose native language is not English must satisfy the English language requirement for Teaching Assistants before they are eligible to receive a Teaching Assistantship. Students can satisfy the English language requirement for TAs in one of the following ways: obtaining a TOEFL Speaking score of 26 or higher, or obtaining an overall IELTS score of 7 or higher, and a Speaking score of 8 or higher, or passing the Graduate Preparation Program (GPP), or passing LAAD 210, or by requesting a waiver (if qualified).

TA salary
TA salary scales can be found on the Academic Personnel Office website.
Please note:
TAs who work 10 hours per week or more are also eligible for remissions on their in-state fees. TA fee remissions do not cover out-of-state non-resident tuition.
If you are offered a TA position and you accept, it is a confirmed commitment for employment. Leaving a TA appointment for a GSR appointment after the deadline will jeopardize future considerations.
Baskin Engineering Academic Payroll: If this is your first job on the UCSC campus, you must complete important employment paperwork to work and receive pay. For any payroll questions, please contact the Academic Payroll Analyst for the department.

TA instructor checklist
The Teaching Assistant (TA) initiates the DocuSign form TA INSTRUCTOR CHECKLIST
- TA must use their @ucsc email to complete this form, and not an alias email address.
- You will be sent a link to access your form via email.
- The student should fill out the identification information.
- Once the student fills out this portion of the DocuSign form, the instructor will receive an email notification with a link to the form to fill out and sign.
- The form will then be sent back to the TA to review and sign.
- Once all parties have signed, the Graduate Advising Office will receive the completed form.
- Please download a copy of the completed form for your own records.
- It is the responsibility of the TA to make sure the form is signed and completed by all necessary parties before the deadline.
TA performance evaluation
The instructor/supervisor initiates the DocuSign form TA PERFORMANCE EVALUATION – for use during the quarter
- Supervisor must use their @ucsc email to complete this form, and not an alias email address.
- You will be sent a link to access your form via email.
- Once the supervisor completes and signs the performance evaluation, the TA will receive an email notification with a link to the form to comment and sign.
- Once all parties have signed, the Graduate Advising Office will receive the completed form.
- Please download a copy of the completed form for your own records. The Graduate Advising Office will place a copy in the students employment file.
