Baskin Engineering alumnus Dylan Esguerra (M.S., Statistics, ’23) discovered his passion for statistics as a sophomore at UC Santa Cruz.
Dylan pursued the 4+1 Statistical Science Program and had the opportunity to work with Adjunct Professor of Applied Mathematics Steve Munch to develop an algorithm for predicting animal populations over time. This approach outperformed state-of-the-art methods at the time and was published in a leading journal.
After graduating, Dylan worked on extreme weather forecasting with Professor and Department Chair of Statistics Robert Lund, before joining UW Medicine, where he currently develops mathematical models for Alzheimer’s research.
